Tractor-Trailer Strikes Disabled Vehicle on I-80, Rolls Trailer Across Roadway

UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a two-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80 in Union Township, Jefferson County.

According to DuBois-based State Police, around 6:25 a.m. on October 2, 62-year-old Dewhite E. Gano, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, was traveling west on I-80 in a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer and struck a 1997 Ford Expedition that was disabled and parked along the shoulder of the roadway.

The Ford was pushed approximately five feet west and came to a final rest against the guide rail.

The tractor-trailer continued to travel east and struck the embankment with its front and continued to travel west crossing the roadway and striking the embankment on the south side of the road. The tractor-trailer then rolled onto its passenger’s side and came to a final rest, with its trailer blocking the left lane.

Gano and his passenger – 58-year-old David B. Butler, of Falling Waters, WV – were freed from the tractor-trailer by mechanical means and were uninjured.

There was no driver in the Ford Expedition.

There was major damage to both vehicles.

Gano was charged with a traffic violation.

Brookville Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
