Tractor-Trailer Swerves to Avoid Deer, Crashes into Guide Rail on I-80

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a tractor-trailer struck a guide rail to avoid deer on Interstate 80 in Washington Township on Wednesday afternoon.

According to DuBois-based State Police, the accident happened around 12:14 a.m. on Wednesday, on I-80 eastbound near the 93 mile marker in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 37-year-old Muhammad Qadri, of Columbus, Ohio, was operating a 2015 Kenworth truck, traveling east on I-80 when two deer entered the roadway from the median. Qadri swerved to avoid striking the deer, and the truck struck the guide rail on the south shoulder.

The guide rail then became lodged under the last four axles of the truck, which continued east until it came to a final rest on the south shoulder of the highway with approximately 100 feet of guide rail lodged underneath it.

Qadri was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

He was charged with a traffic violation.

Bloom Towing also assisted at the scene.
