Trump Shocks the World, Elected as 45th U.S. President

NEW YORK, N.Y. (EYT) – New York billionaire businessman Donald Trump (R) has been elected as the 45th President of the United States.

A win in Wisconsin pushed Trump over the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House.

As of Wednesday morning, heavily-favored Democrat Hillary Clinton had tallied 218 electoral votes.

Trump, 70, won key battleground states including Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Unofficial results show Clinton leading Trump in the popular vote by a narrow margin of 47.6% (59,248,278 votes) to 47.5 (59,095,507).

Shortly before 3:00 a.m., Trump took that stage at his campaign headquarters in Midtown Manhattan and announced that Clinton had phoned to concede the race.

“Hillary has worked very long and very hard for a long period of time,” he said. “We owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service.”

“Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division,” Trump added. “I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.”
