WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say two were injured in a vehicle vs. train crash that occurred around 8:27 p.m. on April 27, on Old Grade Road, in Washington Township, Jefferson County.
According to police, the crash occurred as 20-year-old Laura J. Dressler, of DuBois, was traveling eastbound on Old Grade Road.
Dressler failed to yield the right of way to a train that was traveling northbound on the railroad tracks that intersect with Old Grade Road, police say.
The B&P train, operated by 27-year-old Christopher C. Chichy, Jr. of Commodore, struck Dressler’s 2007 Jeep Commander in the 3 o’clock position, causing the Jeep to roll, according to police.
Police say the Jeep rolled multiple times before coming to a final rest facing west along the railroad tracks.
Chichy activated the train’s emergency brake and came to a final rest approximately 300 yards north of the crossing.
According to police, before entering the crossing, Chichy activated the headlight, ditch lights, and horn.
Dressler and her passenger – John E. Carlson, III, 31, of Brockway – suffered injuries of unknown severity and were transported by Brockway Area Ambulance to Penn Highlands DuBois for treatment, police say.
Chichy and his passenger – Robert E. McCracken, 56, of Brookville – were uninjured in the crash.
Dressler has been cited with a traffic violation.
PSP DuBois were assisted at the scene by Zimmerman’s Towing, Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, and Brockway Area Ambulance.
