Two Men Killed In Cistern Accident Identified By Deputy Cornoner

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder on Wednesday confirmed the identities of two men killed in a cistern accident that happened near Punxsutawney on Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press, Shaffer-Snyder confirmed both men died as a result of the incident. Shaffer-Snyder identified the men as G. Sherwin Farmery, 61, of Rochester Mills, and John Smelko, 67, of Punxsutawney.

Autopsies are scheduled to explain the exact nature of the incident, but both deaths seem accidental in nature, according to the Associated Press.

The Punxsutawney Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team and the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company were at the scene.
