Two Seriously Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-80 in Lawrence Township

LAWRENCE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Two individuals were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County, on Sunday afternoon.

According to Clearfield-based State Police, this crash happened around 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, on Interstate 80 West, in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County.

Police 69-year-old Christopher Myers, of Philadelphia, lost control of his 2019 Chevrolet Trax while attempting to merge into the left lane on I-80 westbound. The vehicle subsequently struck a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder operated by 26-year-old Michael A. Thornburg, of Lake Milton, Ohio.

Myers’ vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned multiple times.

Myers suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Thornburg was not injured. However, his passenger—26-year-old Thomas L. Gatewood, of Lake Milton, OH—also suffered suspected serious injuries and was transported to Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Two additional passengers—53-year-old Valentino Valerio Jr., of Warren, Ohio, and 26-year-old Tyler G. Jeffries, of Youngstown, Ohio—were not injured.

All occupants were using seat belts.

According to police, Myers was charged with a traffic violation.

Police were assisted on the scene by Lawrence Township Volunteer Fire Company #1, Clearfield EMS, and Cummings Towing and Recovery.
