Two Venus Individuals Involved in Van vs Deer Crash on Route 36 Long Headline

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say a one vehicle accident occurred on Colonel Drake Highway (State Route 36), 180 feet south of Township Road 974, in Bell Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, around 9:10 p.m. on July 10, 79-year-old Joseph A. Kitchen, of Irvona, was traveling south on SR 36, just south of the Indiana County and Jefferson County lines.

Police say Kitchen encountered a deer that crossed the road in front of him which he was unable to avoid.

His 2007 Ford E-350 van struck the deer with the front/grill of the vehicle which caused disabling damage to the radiator and transmission cooler, according to police.

Kitchen was able to bring the van to a controlled stop along the roadway in the area of Harkelroad Road.

Kitchen and his 11 passengers in the van were all using seat belts and were uninjured.

54-year-old Viola E. Miller, of Venus
50-year-old Clara E. Byler, of Nicktown
37-year-old Fannie M. Kurtz, of Ebensburg
21-year-old Barbie D. Zoder, of Ebensburg
19-year-old Katie R. Byler, of Ebensburg
56-year-old Adam J. Miller, of Venus
50-year-old Dan J. Byler, of Nicktown
19-year-old Jonas J. Yoder, of Ebensburg
Barbie D. Kurtz, of Ebensburg
a 16-year-old male, of Nicktown

Mahaffey Fire Department provided traffic control at the scene of the accident.

The van was towed by Smitty’s Towing of Mahaffey.
