Two Women Injured in Head-On Collision on Route 36

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – Two women were hospitalized following a head-on collision on Route 36 this morning in Bell Township, Jefferson County.

Punxsutawney-based State Police say the accident happened at 9:52 a.m. on State Route 36, just east of Pine Tree Road.

While attempting to negotiate a left curve in the roadway, a southbound 2005 Pontiac Montana operated by Tracy M. Lee, 40, of Punxsutawney, traveled into the path of a northbound 2005 Dodge Dakota.

Keshia A. Beckwith, 25, of Rossiter, the operator of the Dodge Dakota, attempted to avoid Lee’s vehicle, but was unable to do so and both vehicles struck head-on.

Following impact, Lee’s vehicle came to a rest on the southern shoulder of the roadway.

Beckwith’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a gas meter.

Lee was flown to UPMC Altoona for treatment of major injuries.

Beckwith was transported to Punxsutawney Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

A passenger in Beckwith’s vehicle – a 6-year-old female, also of Rossiter – was using a seat belt and was not injured.

Central Fire Department, Lindsay Fire Company, Elk Run Fire Company, Jefferson County EMS, STAT Medevac, and People’s Gas Company assisted at the scene.
