UPDATE: Oil City Flooding at a Standstill; Seneca Street Still Closed

OIL CITY, Pa. – Officials say flooding has stopped in Oil City; however, Seneca Street remains closed. (Photo by Greg Knox of Bright Ideas Learning Center and Photography.)

According to Oil City Police, as of 8:20 p.m. Seneca Street remains closed, and the parking areas are still blocked off.

Oil City Police say traffic is still being rerouted as a result of the ice jam on Oil Creek that broke up yesterday afternoon and quickly moved downstream.

There has been no decision made about opening up Seneca Street tomorrow, according to officials.

Last night Oil Creek hit flood stage resulting in flooding.

Subsequently, Oil City police closed Seneca Street from Duncomb Street to White Bridge, and traffic was rerouted to the Route 8 bypass.

Sources say Pathways was evacuated last night and other Seneca Street businesses, and residents were told to evacuate the area.

According to sources, businesses were still boarded up this morning.

EMA reported there was no ice movement this morning at mouth of where Oil Creek and the Allegheny River meet, according to the sheriff deputy.
