According to a representative of Jefferson County 911, the call came in at 10:56 a.m.

It was reported that the structure located at 9285 Route 949 was totally engulfed in flames.

Chief David Smith of the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, told exploreJeffersonpa.com, “The homeowners were home. They were in the residence at the time of the fire, and they were totally unaware that they had a fire situation.”

The homeowners were able to exit the house safely once they became aware of the fire.

Chief Smith said the homeowners were planning to stay with family members who live nearby.

The following fire companies assisted at the scene:

– Brookville Fire Company
– Corsica Volunteer Fire Company
– DuBois Fire Company
– Farmington Township Volunteer Fire Department
– Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department
– Sigel Volunteer Fire Company Ward 2, Millstone Township, Station 14
– Summerville Volunteer Fire Department
– Warsaw Township Fire Company
– Marienville Volunteer Fire Company

Jefferson County EMS was also called to the scene.

Although there were no injuries reported at the time of this article, Chief Smith did receive word that one mutual aid department line officer was taken to the hospital for observation.

Officials believe the fire may have started at an outdoor wood burner located along the back side of the garage. The high winds contributed to the spread of the fire to both the garage and the house.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Agencies were still on the scene as of late Thursday afternoon.
