Valentine W. West

Valentine W. West, 90, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Clarion, Pa.

He was born Feb. 20, 1925, in DeLancey, a son of the late Sarah (Manto) and William West.

He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Anita, Pa.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, carpentry and growing his own grapes to make wine.

Valentine worked as a coal miner for many years, and then retired from Loree Footwear in Big Run.

Surviving relatives include a brother, Charles West and wife Rose of Niagara Falls; a niece and caretaker, Sandra Dupak and husband Robert of Punxsutawney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Lesko, Theresa West, Rose Marie Higgins and Infant Mary West; and a brother, Joseph West.

At the request of the family, services are private and under the direction of the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

Interment will be in Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. West to SS.C.D. School.
