Vehicle Crashes into Tree Off Route 322; Reynoldsville Man Flown to UPMC Presbyterian

PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 6:00 a.m. on July 4, a one-vehicle accident occurred on State Route 322, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 47-year-old Terrie D. Buffington, of Reynoldsville, swerved in an attempt to avoid impacting with a northbound traveling deer and lost control of his 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LT.

After impact, the vehicle traveled off the north berm and impacted a tree which was located approximately 24′ off of the roadway. The entire front portion of the vehicle impacted the tree, police say.

The vehicle came to a final rest in a yard approximately 21′ off of the roadway and facing in a northwest direction.

Buffington was using a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash.

He was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Three passengers in Buffington’s vehicle – 39-year-old Tanya M. Buffington, of Reynoldsville; 19-year-old Danny Luce, of Sykesville; and 20-year-old Katasha L. Kessler, of Reynoldsville – suffered moderate injuries and were transported via ambulance to the Brookville Hospital.

The passengers were also using seat belts.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by McPherson’s Towing.

Pine Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department and Jefferson County EMS units assisted at the scene.
