Vehicle Slams into Tree in Union Township, Driver Suffers Major Injuries

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police in DuBois say around 6:39 p.m. on September 29, a one-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 80, in Union Township, Jefferson County.

Police say the accident occurred as a 2006 GMC Savanah cargo van operated by Rabindra Desrath, 41, of Queens, NY, was traveling east near mile marker 76.4 of Interstate 80.

Desrath lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway, and it traveled off the left side of the roadway about 250 feet, spinning 180 degrees and striking a tree with its rear before traveling another 25 feet, according to police.

Police say Desrath was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of major injuries.

Both passengers in the vehicle, Bruce Shepherd, 48, of Brooklyn, NY, and David Singh, 52, of Queens, NY, suffered minor injuries and were treated and released.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was towed from the scene.
