Vera Louella McClintick Kunes

Vera Louella McClintick Kunes left us, August 11, 2018, just three days before her 86th birthday.

She was born at home on the farm on McClintick Road, Jay Township, PA, in 1932, to the late John Samuel and Helen (Fox) McClintick.

Vera was a tireless worker: as a young girl and the oldest girl in a family of seven, she stepped in a “Mom” when her parents had to be away from home because of her father’s illness. Her work continued when she was married to Peter “Bud” Kunes in 1960. While raising her son, she drove tandem dump truck or bulldozer, pushed a wheelbarrow and did anything Pete needed.

She was actively involved at the Weedville Wesleyan Church, serving for years as Kitchen Captain, being responsible for many dinners held there. She was a teacher and most notably the “Maintenance Lady”, as she was Head Trustee’s (who was Peter Kunes) right hand, not to mention all the years she was a faithful Missionary Society member. A board member of both the Mt. Zion Cemetery and the Mt. Zion Historical Society, Vera could be counted on to do her very best at any given task. A lifelong resident of Bennetts Valley, Vera has so fairly won her rest in the Lord and Savior, Jesus.

She is survived by a son, Kelvin Kunes of Weedville; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Samantha and Raymond and an honorary grandson, Christopher Gray; a brother, Gaylon (Susan) McClintick of Weedville; and three sisters, Velma Forsythe of Weedville, Nadine (Paul) Gray of Little Washington, PA, and Rita (Rodney) VanVoorhis of Weedville.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in 2013; two brothers, Kenneth and Clayton McClintick; and a brother-in-law, James Forsythe.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield, and also on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Weedville Wesleyan Church. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Weedville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Bryon Kleppinger and Reverend Randy Swink.

Interment will take place in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Weedville Wesleyan Church and will be accepting online condolences at www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com.
