Video Interview: Historic A-C Valley Girls’ Basketball Season One to Cherish

FOXBURG, Pa. (D9Sports) – It was a historical season for the A-C Valley girls’ basketball team.

The Lady Falcons won a school-record 21 games (21-7) while winning the KSAC South for the first time in school history, advancing to the District 9 championship game (Class 1A) for the first time in school history and winning a PIAA playoff game for the first time ever.

Along the way, Ellie Thompson became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,527 career points and was just the fifth girls’ player in school history to record 1,000 career points and just the 17th player in the KSAC history (and the league’s that came before it) to score 1,500 career points.

It was also a season of challenges for the Lady Falcons, who had to overcome the loss of point guard Olivia Boocks in midseason to a season-ending injury. Instead of ruining the season it brought A-C Valley together and all of the key players upped their scoring averages once Boocks went out of the line, and the Lady Falcons went 12-4 without her with three of the losses coming to North Clarion – including once in the KSAC Title game and a second time in the D9 1A Championship game – and the other coming to Kennedy Catholic in the PIAA Second Round.

While the squad graduates some key players including Thompson, Brooke Irwin, Annie Viertel, Emma Fox and Allison Sherman a strong nucleus should be back led by soon-to-be-seniors Boocks, Kylee Eaton and Cami McNany and a few up-and-coming sophomores.

Chris Rossetti of and EYT Media had a chance to sit down with six of the members of this year’s team to talk about their experience. Here is the video interview with Thompson, Viertel, Eaton, Fox, Sherman and Boocks – McNany and Irwin had previous commitments and were unavailable for the video.
