Viola E. (Snyder) Stormer


Viola E. (Snyder) Stormer, 89, of Route 322 Brookville (Port Barnett) passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville after a period of declining health.

Viola was born July 27, 1932, in Rathmel, PA to Earl H. and Sarah M. (Shaffer) Snyder.

Viola was a 1949 graduate of Reynoldsville High School.

On May 23, 1953, she married her husband Robert “Bob” Stormer in Reynoldsville; he survives. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage.

Viola worked at Cameron Manufacturing, Sylvania, and retired from Dan Smith’s Candies.

She enjoyed word search puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Her grandson, Ben, used to tell her “she sure was a good cooker” when she babysat him.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brookville for over 60 years.

Viola is survived by her children, John (Janet) Stormer of Sykesville, Bob (Peggy) Stormer of Emerickville, Judi (Larry) Anthony of Brookville, and daughter-in-law Patricia Stormer of Brockway. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Christine (John) Stroede of Kansas City, Kansas; Shauna (Isaak) McGarvey of Irvona, Pennsylvania; Charlie Stormer and girlfriend Kayla Carlson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Joe (Tori) Stormer of State College, Pennsylvania; David Stormer and fiancée Chloe Casteel of Sykesville, Pennsylvania; and Jesse (Natalie) Stormer and Ben (Kristin) Stormer, both of Raleigh, North Carolina.

She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Aubrey and Andrew Stroede and Aliza McGarvey. She was looking forward to the birth of her fifth great-grandchild later this month.

She is also survived by her sister Evelyn (Denny) Calhoun of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

Viola was preceded in death by her oldest son, Gary; her parents, her brothers Kenneth, Raymond and Earl and sisters Ruth Guiher and Janet Haag.

Special thanks to all the staff at Laurelbrooke Landing and McKinley Health Center for the care provided to Viola over the past three years.

Funeral services will be private and conducted by Pastor J. Ray Baker, who provided friendship and support to Bob, Viola and the Stormer family over the past few years.

A live broadcast of the private service will be available to watch beginning at 1pm on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Interment will be at the Emerickville Lutheran Cemetery in Emerickville, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Viola’s memory can be made to the Emerickville Lutheran Cemetery Association, c/o Judi Anthony, Secretary/Treasurer, 36 Pennsylvania Ave., Brookville, PA 15825.

Services have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.
