Vogelsong to Make Rehab Start in Altoona Friday

CURVE, Pa. – Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, rehabbing from facial fractures suffered in May, will make a start in Game One of the Altoona Curve’s Friday doubleheader with Harrisburg.

Game time at PNG Field in Altoona is 5 p.m. with the second seven-inning game set to start at approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. It is a Fireworks Night as well as a Loco Wobble Night to celebrate the birthday of Curve mascot Loco. The first 1,500 fans receive a Loco Wobble giveaway.

This will be Vogelsong’s second rehab start with the Curve. On June 10 the righty, who when he was hit with a 92 MPH fastball from Colorado’s Jordan Lyles May 23, pitched five innings for Altoona in Erie allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one.

In 12 games, two starts, with the Pirates this season, Vogelsong, who was signed as a free agent from the San Francisco Giants, is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA.

Going into Thursday’s game with Harrisburg, Altoona was in first place in the Eastern League’s Western Division with a 50-38 record, 1 1/2 games better than Akron and three games better than Harrisburg for a Wild Card spot.

The series with Harrisburg continues Saturday and Sunday.
