Walter G. Geer

Walter GeerWalter G. Geer, 77, of Punxsutawney, entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Snyder Memorial Healthcare Center in Marienville.

He was born on November 01, 1939 in Dayton, PA, a son of the late Mervin Miles and Laura Mae (Sarvey) Geer. Walt was a lifetime resident of Punxsutawney.

Walter was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union #66, where he worked as heavy equipment operator.

Walter attended the Punxsutawney Alliance Church.

His enjoyments were his cars as well as his family.

Surviving relatives include one son, Dennis L Geer of Summerville, SC; four daughters Jeanie L. (Geer) Stumpf of Rochester Mills, PA, Susan E. Geer-Rodwell of Charleston, SC, Georgia M. (Geer) Whitfield and husband James of Marienville, PA, and Melissa A. (Geer) Becker of Reynoldsville, PA. Six granddaughters and five grandsons; three great granddaughters and one great grandson; three sisters, Bernie (Geer)Perry of Reynoldsville, Mary (Geer)Fye and husband Robert of Punxsutawney, PA, Louise (Geer) Maleski and husband Gerald of Canton, OH; two brothers, Ner Reed and wife Betsy Geer of Akron, OH and Laird Geer of Williamsport;

Preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Robert Burton Geer and Kevin Dale Geer; one daughter, Allison Rose Geer; and one brother, Ralph Geer.

Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Friends are encouraged to attend a dinner at the Big Run Fire hall immediately following the service.

Interment will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Township, Reynoldsville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Walter’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
