Walter H. Geer

Walter H. Geer, 81, of Hill Street, DuBois, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the DuBois Nursing Home, after an illness of the past year.

He was born August 8, 1936, in New Jersey, son of the late Walter and Edna Fredrickson Geer. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Toby Schools. Walter was a retired employee of the Keystone Carbon Company, retiring in 1998 with over 20 years of service.

On February 14, 1958, in the St. Boniface Church, Walter married Judith Heigel, who preceded him in death on March 9, 2011.

He is survived by his loving companion, Betts Hrin of DuBois; a daughter, Brenda Distler and her husband Jim of Kersey; a son, Jim Geer and his wife Gina of Kersey; six grandchildren, Andy Distler (Stephanie), Anthony Distler (Stephanie), Lakyn Geer, Lauren Geer, Owen Tamburlin, and Dorian Tamburlin; three great grandchildren, Lily Distler, Hazel Distler, and Evelyn Buehler; and by three sisters, Lois Bennett and her husband Vincent of DuBois, Diane Northrop and her husband Larry of Smethport, and Geraldine Runyan and her husband Melvin of Coal Hollow.

Walter was a member of the St. Boniface Church and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed dancing, traveling, and he especially enjoyed being with his family.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
