Walter Ray Smith

Walter Ray Smith, 81, of Hamilton, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at home with his family.

He was born July 15, 1933 in Grange, a son of the late Coy McCoulter Smith, Sr. and Velda Jane (Whitesell) Smith.

He attended the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

On December 8, 1956 he married the former Mary Irene McKee. She survives and resides in Hamilton.

Walter worked as a laborer at Jefferson Machine until his retirement. He was also a caretaker for Deemer brothers.

He enjoyed hunting and liked to tinker around with things.

Walter was a dedicated husband and father. His greatest enjoyment was teasing and picking on
everyone, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Smith and wife Nancy
and Brian Smith and wife Drinda, both of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Jacob Smith and wife Nicole of Punxsutawney; and Joshua Smith and wife Morgan of State College; Mollie and Mercie Smith of Punxsutawney; and Caleb Riggleman of Punxsutawney; three great grandchildren, Benjamin Smith; Ethan Smith; and Bailey Riggleman; one brother in-law, Blair Richards of Punxsutawney, and a sister in-law, Margaret Bush and husband Robert of Punxsutawney, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he cherished.

Preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, Joel Riggleman; Brent Smith; and Luke Smith;
two brothers, Eugene Whitesell and Coy M. Smith, Jr.; two sisters, Alma Rossman and Bertha Richards.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, at the funeral home officiated by
Tom Spiker.

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville, Pa.
