Waneta C. Mackcoviak

Waneta C. Mackcoviak, 93, a resident of Christ the King Manor in DuBois and formerly of St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Christ the King Manor, after a brief illness.

She was born April 29, 1928, in Brookville, daughter of the late Linsey and Elva Dempsey Shaffer.

Waneta was a lifelong resident of Elk County.

On June 23, 1945, in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, Waneta married Michael F. Mackcoviak, who preceded her in death on October 27, 1998.

She is survived by two sons: Steven F. Mackcoviak of Kersey and Michael J. Mackcoviak of St. Marys; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; her special nephew, Max Shaffer, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Waneta was preceded in death by her three sisters: Goldie Bowser, Mona Lockwood, and Shirley Plottner; and by two brothers: Judd Shaffer and Lynn Shaffer.

Family was most important for Waneta. She cherished every moment with her family and friends and would welcome the company and conversation from anyone.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choosing.
