Warren Harding Algoe

WarrenHAlgoeWarren Harding Algoe, 91, of Newmanstown, Lebanon County, formerly of Mayport, Ringgold Township, Jefferson County, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, who cared for him for the past several years.

Born April 13, 1923, in Redbank Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Alice Elmina (Siverling) Algoe.

He attended both the Frazer Schoolhouse in Truittsburg and Hawthorn High School, before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Alaska.

Upon returning home to the family farm, he married the former M. Jane Miller on March 13, 1948, and they made their home on the farm for nearly 30 years where they had four children, James, Dwight, Alice and Robert. In addition to farming the family homestead, he worked for Heffner Bros. in Hawthorn. He retired in 1985.

In 1974, Warren and Jane moved to North Freedom, and he became a member of the North Freedom United Methodist Church.

Warren was also a charter and lifetime member of the Hawthorn Fire Company. He also served as a supervisor for Redbank Township and a trustee for the Frazer Cemetery Association.

Warren was known throughout his community as being a helping hand to anyone in need and for his love of John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family retreat at Valley Hi.

In addition to his wife, Jane, of 66 years, he is survived by four children, James and his wife, Dianne, of Apple Valley, Calif.; Dwight and his wife, Sarah, of Mount Joy; Alice Roush and her husband, Dan, of Newmanstown; and Robert and Shirley, of Porter; two granddaughters, Erin Mowrer and Emily Harry; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Colin, Noah, Jeremy and Ava.

He is also survived by two brothers, John Algoe and his wife, Vivian, of Mayport; and Tom and his wife, Sue, of Mayport; a brother-in-law, Bob Miller and his wife, Mary; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June; a brother, Robert R.; a half-brother, Ralph; a half-sister, Della; a nephew, Alan; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn, with the funeral service to be held on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Frazer Cemetery, Redbank Township, Clarion County.
