JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – An Excessive Heat Watch remains in effect for Jefferson County and the surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued the following Urgent Weather Message at 4:02 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019:

…EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING…

* HEAT INDEX VALUES…Up to 104 due to temperatures in the lower 90s, and dewpoints in the mid 70s.

* TIMING…Friday afternoon into early evening, and again Saturday afternoon into early evening.

* IMPACTS…The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of heat and humidity is expected.

The combination of hot temperature and high humidity will combine to create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
