JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – A flood watch has been issued for Jefferson County and surrounding areas.

…FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM EST THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON…

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of east central Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, including the following areas, in east central Ohio, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, and Tuscarawas. In Pennsylvania, Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Fayette Ridges, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington, Westmoreland, and Westmoreland Ridges. In West Virginia, Brooke, Eastern Preston, Hancock, Marion, Marshall, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Ridges of Eastern Monongalia and Northwestern Preston, and Wetzel.

* From 7 PM EST this evening through Saturday afternoon

* Periods of rain are expected through midday Friday before precipitation begins to change to a wintry mix. Rainfall amounts of up to 2.00 inches across the region and snow melt as a result of the warm temperature may result in localized flooding.

In addition, expected rises from rainfall and snow melt will result in movement and break-ups of ice on area rivers and streams, which could lead to ice jams and flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

A Winter Storm Warning is also in effect for the area.
