Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center Announces Spring Programs

Glow in the Dark Day

Saturday, March 18, 10 a.m. – Noon

It’s all about the glow during this two-hour program.

Fun activities include creating art with glow-in-the-dark paint, making your own glow-in-the-dark slime, exploring neon rice and more.

Attendees also can enjoy free time on the exhibits and a tasty snack. The cost is $7 per person.

Week of Giving

March 20-24

The Weather Discovery Center is participating in the Punxsutawney Community Foundation and Bridge Builders Community Foundations Week of Giving beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, March 20. Any money raised by a participating nonprofit that week will receive a prorated match of additional dollars from Bridge Builders.

Punxsutawney Phil’s Weather Extravaganza for Girl Scouts

Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Enjoy a day of fun in the Weather Capital of the World! Visit the Weather Discovery Center, go on a walking tour to see Phantastic Phils, and have lunch & spend time with Punxsutawney Phil at Gobblers Knob. Full details and registration at gswpa.org!

Skywarn Training

Thursday, April 27, 6 p.m.

The Weather Discovery Center is pleased to offer a free-to-the-public SKYWARN® class, presented by the National Weather Service (NWS) at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 27.

SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters.

These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the NWS.

This class will provide the essential training for attendees to become a certified weather watcher of the SKYWARN® program.

Topics will cover severe weather basics, storm structures, weather understanding as well as how to report severe events.

Home of the Groundhog Camporee for Boy Scouts

Friday, May 5-Saturday, May 6

Come camp at Gobblers Knob, meet Punxsutawney Phil, hike into downtown on Saturday morning to earn your Energy Merit Badge at the Weather Discovery Center or have a program about Native Americans at the Punxsutawney Historical Society.

In the afternoon, switch places to do the other activity!

Cost is $20 per Scout.
