William Albert Geary Sr.

Bill GearyWilliam Albert Geary Sr., 76, of Clarion, passed away on May 14, 2017 at the Clarion Hospital after a brief illness.

Bill was born November 13, 1940 in Brookville.

Son of the late William Paul and Louise Crooks Geary.

He graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School.

Bill was married to the former Patricia Reinsel on June 11, 1960 and she survives.

Bill joined the US Navy and trained as an Electrician’s Mate. His Veterans status was very important to him, he took great pride in his son Bill Jr. and his granddaughter Hillary carrying on the honor of Military Service.

After serving his country he was employed with Pennsylvania Electric, Piney Dam Station until his retirement.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he was also an active member of the Moose Lodge #101 and the American Legion Post #066, where he was on the board of directors and served on the Honor Guard.

Bill was a talented and able gunsmith and loved anything concerning firearms. He could often be found in his workshop bent over the workbench repairing a friend’s gun. He was interested in learning how things worked which meant he could fix almost anything and was the repair advisor to many people.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working around the farm including planting pumpkins for the kids.

He had a love for dogs and owned Brush Run Kennels.

He also enjoyed riding his Missouri Fox Trotters in his earlier years.

A favorite time of the year was the distribution of the Geary Easter hams and smoked bacon.

Bill had a great sense of humor, enjoyed a good joke and told a few too. He could entertain for hours with his quick wit and stories from the past. He will also be remembered by his friends for his signature green work clothes and his love for Gravely tractors. Bill leaves his family the legacy of hard work and the importance of keeping your word.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years; his three children, William A. (Bill) Jr. and his wife Marcy McGuire Geary of Biloxi, MS, Tricia and Mark Shingledecker of Clarion and Mike and Erin Geary of Greensboro, NC; Seven grandchildren, Kristy and Wesley Alspaugh, Paul Geary, Dan and Moira Shingledecker, Ryan Geary, Hillary Geary, Ross Shingledecker and Sara Shingledecker; and three great grandchildren, Chase and Caden Alspaugh and Ruthie Ann Shingledecker.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Bill’s family will receive friends from 2 to 4PM and 7 to 9PM on Wednesday May 17, 2017 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion.

A Christian wake service will be held at 8:45PM in the funeral home.

Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #066 Honor Guard at 10:30AM Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11AM in the Immaculate Conception Church with Reverend Monty Sayers Pastor officiating.

Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
