William Chester Pyles, 73, of Albion, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
He was born on March 11, 1948, in Markton, a son of the late William Chester Pyles and Violet Faye (Burkett) Pyles.
Mr. Pyles was a proud United States Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam War with the 4th Infantry Division.
He became good friends with one of his dear comrades and kept in touch with him until his death just a month ago.
On October 2, 1970, he married his lifelong partner, Ethel Mae Saltzman. She survives and resides in Albion.
Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator for P&N Coal and other mining companies.
He worked for Jack’s Heating in St Marys for a number of years before he opened his own business called Albion Heating.
Bill loved his job and always did right by his customers, no matter what time of the day or night he was needed.
He had the knack to fix nearly anything.
He loved his wife and children, and he was a great husband and provider.
He was very fond of his grandchildren and cared deeply about them.
He had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh.
He liked to meet the guys for breakfast at Lily’s each morning to catch up on the happenings.
Bill loved nice cars and always took great care of his vehicles. Fishing was a favorite relaxing pass time for him.
In addition to his wife, Ethel, he is survived by two children, William Dwayne Pyles of Punxsutawney, and April Jacklet and husband Chad of Troutdale, Virginia; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Pyles, Morgan Skinner, Ian and Levi Jacklet; two sisters, Betty Gigliotti and husband Francis of Punxsutawney and Karen Kastelic of Shelocta.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sharon Skinner; three brothers, Robert Manners, Raymond Manners and Jack Manners; one sister, Virginia “June” Wells.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Markton Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, cards may be given directly to the family.
