William D. “Kelly” Hetrick

William D. “Kelly” Hetrick, 89, a resident of Union Township, died on Saturday afternoon, April 27, 2013, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville following an extended illness. A resident of Brookville most of his life, he was born in Coolspring, PA on December 19, 1923, a son of the late Everett T. Hetrick and Mary G. Alcorn Hetrick.

William’s entire 40-year career was spent in the coal mining industry. He retired in 1984 from C & K Coal Company (formerly W. P. Stahlman Coal Company), where he worked for 31 years as a Coal Preparation Plant Manager. Previously, he worked as a Weigh Master for five years at Freebrook Coal Mining Company and four years at DuBois Coal Mining Company. Prior to serving during WWII, he worked for Curtis Wright in Beaver, PA, as an Airplane Propeller Inspector for two years.

He attended the Coolspring Presbyterian Church, the Brookville E.U. M. Church, and the Corsica Pisgah Presbyterian Church. He graduated with honors from Brookville Area High School in 1941 where he was a member of the National Honor Society. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed carpentry, drilling for coal, barbequing, bowling, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, fishing and roller-skating.

William was extremely proud and honored to be a veteran of WWII where he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a navigator on a B29 Superfortress Bomber serving in the Pacific Theatre.

In 1948, he married Isabel E. Burkett of Punxsutawney who survives. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by two sons, Terry D. Hetrick, of Polk, PA, Timothy R. Hetrick and wife, Joyce, of Brockway, PA; three daughters, Pamela G. Dougherty and husband, Timothy, of McKean, PA; Jill A. Walters and husband, Jeffrey, of Sagamore Hill, OH; and Lori J. Dolby and husband, Leonard, of Wildwood, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one Brother, James R. Hetrick and wife, Chiquita, of Lakeland, FL; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn M. Hetrick, of Brookville, PA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Roxine Hilliard, and one brother, W. Russell Hetrick.

Friends may call at the McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA, from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2013, and services will be held from the funeral home on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 11 AM with The Reverend R. James Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Cemetery (Windy Hill), Rose Township, Jefferson County, PA.
