William J. LaBelle

William J. LaBelle, 91, Punxsutawney, formerly of Hastings passed away peacefully December 13, 2020, at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born November 3, 1929, in Hastings, the son of James and Margaret (Ebbs) LaBelle.

On February 7, 1953, he married the love of his life, Catherine McConnell, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2010.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence, Ernestine, Edith, Francis, Robert, and Ronald; and his best girl, a black lab named Diamond, who became his constant companion after his wife passed away. He is survived by three sons, William (Patty), Jeffery (Julie), and Wayne (Kim) LaBelle; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Fairman, Marcie (Dan) Wolfe, Jessica (Ron) Cielo, Jodi (Jim) Campbell, Michelle (Ben) Elliot, Nick LaBelle and Katie LaBelle; seven great grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Garrett, Alyssa, Mason, Alexander and Adelyn; a brother, Paul (Barb) LaBelle; former daughter-in-law, Mary LaBelle and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his wonderful neighbors and friends, Frank, Phyllis, and Shannon Byerly. Phyllis made sure he had dinner every night and checked on him numerous times each day while he as able to live at home.

William was a hard worker and loved to tell stories about his coal mining days. He was a proud UMWA member and retired from Greenwich Collieries after 23 1/2 years of faithful service.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all services will be private. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton.
