William K. “Bill” Zimmerman

William K. “Bill” Zimmerman, 64, of Punxsutawney, PA died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

He died of Acute Respiratory Failure and Lung Cancer.

He was born June 14, 1951 in Punxsutawney, PA, the son of the late Walter J. and Emma (Plyler) Zimmerman.

He graduated from the Punxsutawney High School in 1969 and graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1973 with a degree in Accounting.

He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Punxsutawney Fire Department and was a Past Exalted Ruler of BPO Elks Lodge No. 301 in Punxsutawney.

He worked as a sales representative for Mahoning Hardware and Mac’s Auto Supply in Punxsutawney. He was also employed by the Maintenance Department of Treasure Lake, near DuBois, PA.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, where he served as Treasurer and was active with the church youth programs.

His life’s passions included working on his farm, studying Civil War History, following the Pirates and the Steelers, and spending time with his friends at Punxy Phil’s Family Restaurant.

He is survived by three brothers, Walter J. Zimmerman and his compantion, Pamela Ferguson of State College, PA; R. Eric Zimmerman and his wife, Kendra of St. Paul, MN; and Jon C. Zimmerman of Port Matilda, PA; and by one sister, Patty S. O’Connor and her husband, James, of Chambersburg, PA. He is also survive by numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, PA on Friday, July 24. 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 and on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 9-10:30.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney with Rev. Paul Ritchey officiating.

Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.

The family requests that donations in memory of Bill be made to the First United Methodist Church Youth Fund Mahoning & Church Streets Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
