William L. Sprankle, Sr.

William L. Sprankle, Sr., 90 of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Sprankle was born April 20, 1925 in Valier, a son of the late Carl W. and Helen (Holben) Sprankle.

November 22, 1946 he married his loving wife Myrtle E. (Meckley) Sprankle who preceded him in death.

He was a proud WWII veteran having served in the US Navy.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Bill was a former little league manager for many years in the 60’s. He loved hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons; William L. Sprankle, Jr. and wife Pamela, Gary A. Sprankle and wife Joanne, two daughters; Jeanie Daugherty and Joanie Nolder and husband Red all of Punxsutawney, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and his sister’s in law; Veronica Sprankle and husband Burt Barber of Florida, Lil Sprankle of Altoona and one sister; Vera Sklad of Ohio.

In addition to his wife Myrtle, he is preceded in death by six brothers; Edward, Harry, Carl “Corky”, Jesse, Theodore and Donald (infant). One sister; Della Bradley and a son in law; Larry Daugherty.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm, Thursday at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday at the funeral home with The Reverend Richard Pike officiating.
