Woman Facing Charges for Hiding Wanted Man

REYNOLDSVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville woman is facing charges after she allegedly hid a man who was wanted by police on a warrant and lied to officers about his whereabouts.

Court documents indicate the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 50-year-old Loretta McKay, of Reynoldsville.

According to a criminal complaint, Sgt. Murray of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department and Deputies Yingling, Ellenberger, and Metacic of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve a warrant on a known male after receiving a tip the man was staying with Loretta McKay at a residence on Jackson Street in Reynoldsville.

The officers responded to the residence and knocked on the door, and McKay and a second known man came to the door. Sgt. Murray explained the officers were looking for the known man and asked McKay and the second known man if they knew his whereabouts.

According to the complaint, they said they had not seen the known man for at least a week. Sgt. Murray then explained that he was wanted on a warrant and asked if they could look inside and see if he was there.

The complaint notes that McKay said “no” and stated “He is not here. I have not seen him.”

Sgt. Murray then explained it was important that they be honest with the officers, because if it was found that the wanted man was there, they could both go to jail for concealing his whereabouts.

According to the complaint, McKay got upset after a few minutes and said she was going upstairs to use the restroom. At that time, the second known man told Sgt. Murray that the wanted man was upstairs in McKay’s bedroom.

The wanted man was then apprehended in the residence.

McKay was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak at 8:52 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, on the following charges:

– Hinder Apprehension/Prosecution-Harbor Or Conceal, Misdemeanor 2
– Hinder Apprehension/Prosecution-False Info To LEO, Misdemeanor 2

She remains free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on December 19, with Judge Inzana presiding.
