Woman Facing Felony Charges for Allegedly Stealing Medication from Brookville Pharmacy

Police car lightsBROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Rockton woman is facing several charges, including third-degree felony, following an alleged retail theft at a pharmacy in Brookville, Jefferson County.

According to a criminal complaint, around 6:00 p.m. on October 15, Officer Turnbull, of Brookville Police Department, responded to a call concerning a theft from a pharmacy located on Main Street in Brookville.

The complaint states that a young female had taken her medication from the pharmacy and walked outside without paying for it. The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Melinda Solada, of Rockton, Pa.,

The complaint indicates that Officers Turnbull and Gallagher reviewed the security video with an employee of the pharmacy who identified Solada in the video as she entered the business and walked back to the pharmacy to receive her medication. The employee stated that Solada’s insurance did not go through, so Solada stated she would pay with a card and had the card out in her hand.

On the video, Solada had her card out then turned and tucked the medication under her arm as she walked through the store and then walked past the checkout counter and out the front door without paying. The total payment due was $224.00, the complaint continues.

Based on the information gathered in his investigation, Officer Turnbull requested an arrest warrant be issued for Solada.

According to court documents, Solada was arraigned at 1:27 p.m. on October 21 in front of District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak.

She faces the following charges:

  • Theft By Decep-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1
  • Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1
  • Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
  • Theft By Failure To Make Required Disposition Funds, Misdemeanor 1
  • Retail Theft-Take Mdse, Felony 3

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on November 2 with Judge Bazylak presiding.
