Woman Injured as Fire Tears Through Three Buildings in Redbank Township

REDBANK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Authorities say one woman was injured in a fire that tore through multiple structures on Pine Run Road in Redbank Township late Tuesday night.

According to Hawthorn Area Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Curt Kiehl, around 10:30 p.m., his department was called to the scene of a fire at Kemmer’s Greenhouse on Pine Run Road just off State Route 28 in Redbank Township, Clarion County.

Along with Hawthorn Area Volunteer Fire Department, New Bethlehem Fire Company #1, Summerville Volunteer Fire Department, and Limestone Township Volunteer Fire Company were initially dispatched to the scene. Kiehl then also requested tankers from Ringgold Area Volunteer Fire Company and Corsica Volunteer Fire Company.

“Water supply was difficult at first,” Kiehl told exploreClarion.com.

Kiehl was the first to the scene and reported that when he arrived, the residence, a detached garage, and another outbuilding behind the garage were fully engulfed, while a second outbuilding near the greenhouse area was beginning to burn.

“The house was already on the ground,” Kiehl said.

According to Kiehl, the house, the garage, and the first outbuilding were a total loss, though firefighters were able to put out the second outbuilding that was just beginning to burn.

Kiehl said a woman in the residence at the time of the fire was able to escape, but suffered injuries of unknown severity. She was transported to a Pittsburgh area hospital by Clarion Hospital EMS.

The woman’s name has not been released.

Southern Clarion County Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Kiehl noted that as of mid-afternoon on Wednesday, the cause of the fire had still not been determined.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 1:39 p.m. while Kiehl, a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and representatives Columbia Gas remained at the property to continue their investigation.
