Woman Killed in Route 53 Crash

COOPER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a 62-year-old woman was killed in a crash that occurred on State Route 53 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the accident happened around 1:15 p.m. on October 19, on State Route 53 near the westbound entrance to Interstate 80 at Exit 133, in Cooper Township, Clearfield County.

Police say 54-year-old James Andrew Demchak, of Philipsburg, was operating a 2000 International truck traveling south on State Route 53 and turning left to enter the westbound entrance ramp of Interstate 80 at Exit 133 when he failed to notice a 2007 Cadillac traveling northbound. The oncoming vehicle then struck the front driver’s side portion of Demchak’s vehicle.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 62-year-old woman, was subsequently transported to UPMC Altoona by STAT MedEvac and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital by trauma surgeons.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Demchak was not injured.

Moshannon Valley EMS, Grassflat Fire Department, Morris Township Fire Department, Philipsburg Fire Department, and PennDOT assisted at the scene.

The vehicles were removed from the scene by Bigler Boyz Towing.
