Woman Flown to Pittsburgh Following Crash on I-80 in Sandy Township

SANDY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a 64-year-old woman was flown to Allegheny General Hospital following a recent crash on Interstate 80 in Sandy Township.

According to police, around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, Nancy Frankel-Zacchero, of Pittsburgh, was operating a 2017 Nissan Rogue, traveling east on Interstate 80 in the left lane near mile marker 97 in Sandy Township.

Police say Frankel-Zacchero’s vehicle drifted off the left side of the road and collided with a stretch of guide rail before coming to a final rest in the median.

Frankel-Zacchero was wearing a seatbelt. She suffered injuries of an unknown severity and was transported to Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital by ambulance and then flown to Allegheny General Hospital by LifeFlight.

The vehicle’s passengers – 28-year-old Rachel F. Zacchero, of Pittsburgh, and a three-year-old child – were both wearing proper restraints and were not injured.

Sandy Township Volunteer Fire Department and DuBois EMS assisted at the scene.

Frankel-Zacchero was determined to be at fault and cited accordingly by the electronic submission of a traffic citation via District Court 46-3-01.
