Yolanda M. “Yola” Sekula

Yolanda M. “Yola” Sekula, age 97 of DuBois, PA, died Thursday, January 7, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 12, 1923, in Brockway, PA, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary Grace (Parulo) Paladino.

On July 24, 1942, she married Stanley J. Sekula. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1970.

She was a graduate of Brockway Area High School Class of 1941.

She and her husband founded and operated Sekula Sign Company in 1946. Yola served as secretary/treasurer of Sekula Sign Corporation until the sale of the company in 2018. During those many years, she was an integral part of the success of the company.

Yola was involved in numerous community activities. She was a member of DuBois Hospital Auxiliary and served three terms as President. She was Treasurer for the DuBois Hospital Grill and Gift Shop for many years. She served on the Clearfield Jefferson Mental Health Board. She was the first woman appointed to the former DuBois Hospital Board. She served as President of the Board during the Planning and Consolidation of the DuBois and Maple Avenue Hospitals. She served as a member and Secretary/Treasurer of the new DuBois Regional Medical Center Board of Directors. She was the first woman to receive the DuBois Area Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1989. Yola was member of the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and served as Eucharistic Minister. She was also a volunteer at the DuBois Central Catholic for many years.

Yola is survived by her son, Paul J. Sekula and his wife Gail of DuBois, PA; a sister, Jenny Botts of Raleigh, NC; three granddaughters, Stacey Frank and her husband Tommy of DuBois, PA, Kelly Sekula and her wife Denise Todd of Collegeville, PA, and Katherine “Kadie” Smith and her husband Chad of Mercer, PA; and seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Jackson and Jessy Frank, Austin, Alana, Sierra and Brooklyn Smith; and 2 step grandchildren, Christopher and Kaitlyn Todd.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Daniel, Angelo, Tony and Patsy Paladino; and two sisters, Carmella Bruno and Susan Raspatello.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021, from 1 PM–4 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. Masks are required and social distancing requirements will be followed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 11, 2021, at 10:00 AM from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant. Masks are required and social distancing requirements will be followed.

Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery.
