Charlie Bowdish Birthday Bash Set for This Weekend in Brookville

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Chase away those mid-winter blues and visit the Jefferson County History Center on Saturday, February 23, for the annual Charlie Bowdish Birthday Bash.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Charlie Bowdish’s annual model railroad displays which began on Christmas 1919 and continued in Brookville until 1954 before most of the exhibit was moved to the Buhl Planetarium (now the Carnegie Science Center) in Pittsburgh.

Annually, on the last Saturday of February, the Bowdish volunteers open a newly revised model railroad layout at the JCHC featuring some of Charlie’s original models and animations along with many that are newly created by our Bowdish modelers. Bring the kids – and the kid in yourself – to see and hear that train whistle down the tracks through
Tunnel Hill.

The event, held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will also showcase the opening of the Jefferson County History Center’s new exhibit – Gone But Not Forgotten! The exhibit features numerous paintings of departed artists from Jefferson County dating from the mid-19th century through today.

Admission is by donation. For more information, contact the Jefferson County History Center at (814) 849-0077 or visit jchconline.org.
