Crash Shuts Down Route 119 in Bell Township

BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police in Punxsutawney have released details on a three-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of State Route 119 in Bell Township, Jefferson County.

Police said the accident happened Saturday around 3:31 p.m. on State Route 119 just west Albion Road.

Jesse J. Burkett, 18, of Punxsutawney, was traveling south on State Route 119 in the right lane when he observed a 2008 Jeep Commander operated by Tina D. Peace, 35, of Punxsutawney, activate her turning signal in preparation for a left turn in front of Burkett.

Burkett braked hard causing his 2002 Dodge Ram to turn sideways on the roadway. It continued to slide down State Route 119 until it struck Peace’s vehicle.

Burkett’s truck then traveled into a parking area where it struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.

Citizen’s Ambulance Service transported Peace to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Burkett was not injured.

All three vehicles sustained disabling damage.

Rebuck’s South Side Towing assisted with the removal of the Dodge Ram and the Jeep Commander.

Punxsutawney Central Fire Department and Elk Run Fire Department assisted on scene with traffic control.

State Route 119 was closed for approximately 45 minutes following the accident.

Burkett was cited for failing to drive at a safe speed.
