Incumbent Republican Candidates Facing Off Against Democrat Challengers in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Two of western Pennsylvania’s Republican incumbents are facing opposition from Democrat challengers in today’s election.

Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, whose newly minted 15th District includes all or parts of 14 western Pennsylvania counties stretching from Venango to Centre, is facing Susan Boser, a professor of Sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Incumbent Rep. Glenn GT Thompson (R)

Rep. Thompson’s campaign has focused on job growth through access to training programs, comprehensive tax reform, and affordable energy, as well as the elimination of wasteful spending and increasing government efficiency. Thompson’s campaign also touched on domestic energy policy, with focuses on the promotion of energy efficiency and home-grown energy resources, as well as promoting investment in energy research.

Challenger Susan Boser (D)

Boser’s campaign has focused on job creation through high-speed broadband internet access, business opportunities through renewable energy, promotion of small businesses, the development and maintenance of infrastructure, and the creation of agricultural cooperatives and processing facilities to help farmers better market their products in the area.

STATE REPRESENTATIVE

66th Legislative District

The 66th Legislative District covers all of Jefferson County and Banks Township, Canoe Township, Cherry Tree, East Mahoning Township, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Grant Township, Green Township, Marion Center, Montgomery Township, North Mahoning Township, Plumville, Rayne Township, Smicksburg, South Mahoning Township, and West Mahoning Township in Indiana County.

Incumbent Rep. Cris Dush (R)

Incumbent Rep. Dush, who has described himself as a “constitutionalist”, has focused his campaign on bringing bureaucrats to account for regulatory abuses, wasteful documentation requirements, and unfunded mandates. His campaign has also touched on issues of recognition of life beginning at conception and marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Challenger Kerith Strano Taylor (D)

Strano Taylor’s campaign has focused on building stronger public schools through state funding, creating job opportunities and economic development through investment in infrastructure, and working toward healthier communities by supporting funding to fight the opioid epidemic and keeping rural communities from being over-taxed. Her campaign also touches on protecting the independence of the courts and the integrity of elections.
