Featured Local Job: Counselor/Advocate

PASSAGES, Inc. has an opening for a full-time counselor/advocate.  This is 1 full time position, covering Clearfield and Jefferson counties. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or education regarding sexual violence issues preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, Human Development and Family Studies, or related field.
  • Appropriate professional experience and training in the field of counseling of not less than one year.
  • Must have the ability to work independently yet compatible with others.
  • Must be able to assume responsibility and make decisions.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills and knowledge.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete the PASSAGES, Inc. sexual assault counselor training and obtain Act 34/151/FBI clearances.

Duties – the full-time Counselor/Advocate is responsible to the Executive Director and shall perform the following duties:

  • Provide supportive counseling to individuals and groups at office locations and outreach locations.
  • Provide advocacy, including accompaniment to medical facilities, police investigations, and court proceedings.
  • Provide emergency crisis intervention and/or accompaniment to clients as needed.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings and case management meetings.
  • Abide by all standards/practices set forth in the PASSAGES Counselor Manual.
  • Maintain individual client files according to standards set forth in the PASSAGES Counselor Manual.
  • Meet with Direct Services Supervisor and Executive Director on an individual basis to monitor the progress of performance goals.
  • Compile counseling service statistics and provide that information to the Direct Services Supervisor in a timely manner for submission to relevant funding sources.
  • Provide coverage for the crisis hotline as needed.
  • Establish and maintain outreach-counseling locations. Provide supportive counseling at these locations.
  • Function as an agency liaison with appropriate systems such as health care, mental health, law enforcement, correctional facilities, and criminal justice to promote a cooperative effort in meeting the needs of victims.
  • Conduct community outreach activities.
  • Assist in the publication of agency newsletter.
  • Attend meetings as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Assist in conducting the PASSAGES, Inc. forty-hour sexual assault counselor trainings as needed.
  • Participate in planning and attending agency related special events.
  • Contribute to the positive environment of the agency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
