Hazel J. (Huff) Erhard

Hazel Erhard, 85, died early Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois, PA. She had been in frail health for some time.

She was born December 20, 1932, in Caledonia, to the late Blair and Louise Fox Huff. On October 20, 1956, she was married to Dean Erhard of New Millport who preceded her in death in 1990.

Hazel worked at Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Marys and the Riverside Market in Weedville. She was an excellent cook and homemaker. She was an enthusiastic bowler and was secretary for three leagues for many years. She went to live near her daughter and granddaughter in 2006 where she enjoyed attending the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church, volunteering with the American Red Cross, shopping at Amish farm markets, and taking treats to the Amish schools, but she always longed for Bennetts Valley.

Her strong constitution proved to be an asset as she was beset by health problems. Her first words on coming out of anesthesia were invariably, “Make me an appointment at the hairdresser.” She always looked ahead, never back.

She is survived by daughter, Rita Kelley (Sam) of Altoona, son, Blair Erhard (Brian Fisher) of Burbank, CA, granddaughter, Jodi Wilson of Tyrone who was her sunshine, and sisters, Beverly Heiple of Latrobe, and Carolyn Smith, Joan Turnbull, and Marlene Long, all of Caledonia. She was preceded in death by brothers, William, Duane, and Leslie Huff.

There will be no visitation and burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Weedville. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home, Penfield, PA.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in her memory to the Bennetts Valley Ambulance or the Jay Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The family thanks everyone at the DuBois Village and Nursing Home who cared for Hazel.
