PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday for a Jefferson County man who allegedly kicked and punched a 70-year-old woman at a residence in Punxsutawney Borough.

Court documents indicate that 33-year-old Bernard F Gasker Jr., of Punxsutawney, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Assault, Felony 1
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

Gasker remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $25,000.00 monetary bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on Wednesday, September 26, Officer Winfield, of the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department, received a call from Clearfield-Jefferson Mobile Crisis who advised that they received a call reporting that Bernard Gasker Jr. assaulted a known 70-year-old woman the previous night.

Officer Winfield responded to a Punxsutawney residence and spoke to the victim.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that Gasker kicked her multiple times in the right leg with his shoe on and punched her on the head with his fist.

Officer Winfield noted the victim’s right leg was wrapped in gauze that was soaked with blood and she had a cut on the top of her head.

The victim said the assault occurred around 10:00 p.m. on the night of Tuesday, September 25, and that her husband took her to the hospital for treatment after the assault. She also explained that she is a hemophiliac, so she runs the risk of dying from blood loss when she bleeds.

According to the complaint, when Officer Winfield asked if Gasker was aware of her condition and the danger it presented, the victim said he was. She also stated that Gaster has the same condition and has to be careful of bleeding for the same reason.

Gasker was arraigned on Wednesday, September 26, in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office.
