Jefferson County Man Accused of Stealing Over $240,000 from Employer Waives Hearing


PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County man facing charges related to the theft of more than $240,000 from his Hamilton-area employer waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Larry W. Depp, 47, of Punxsutawney, waived his hearing and his case was transferred to the Court of Common Pleas.

The following charges were filed against Depp by State Police on July 18:

  • Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
  • Theft By Deception-False Impression, Felony 2
  • Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 2
  • Forgery – Unauthorized Act In Writing, Felony 3 (35 counts)

The charges stem from the alleged theft of $243,026.75 worth of abrasive materials while Depp was employed at Production Abrasives INC. on Sheesley Way, Perry Twp., Jefferson County.

He allegedly utilized several business names to purchase items fraudulently from Production Abrasives and then sold the products to various individuals.

The alleged criminal activity occurred between January 2014 and December 2016.

Depp was a supervisor at the facility and a trusted employee for several years, according to Pennsylvania-based State Police Trooper Rupp.
