Jefferson County Man Arrested After Being Found with Meth, Counterfeit Money

REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville man is facing a series of charges after he was found in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a counterfeit bill.

Court documents indicate the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 39-year-old Michael Vincent Brumberg, of Reynoldsville.

According to a criminal complaint, on July 27, Chief Bell, of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department, received a call from a representative of the Area Agency on Aging requesting a meeting. The representative requested Chief Bell’s presence because her investigation suggested that Michael Brumberg had acted violently toward his father.

During the meeting with the representative and Brumberg’s father, Chief Bell discovered that Brumberg may have had warrants from Lancaster County. A warrant was confirmed through Jefferson County Control and also confirmed with Lancaster County.

According to the complaint, Chief Bell frequently noticed Brumberg at a local business, gambling on the electronic machines. Chief Bell proceeded to the business and found Brumberg there.

Brumberg was then taken into custody.

The complaint states that Chief Bell noticed Brumberg had a crumpled $100.00 bill in his left hand with a brown mark on the bill. The clerk verified that Brumberg had attempted to use the bill unsuccessfully as a bill marker had shown that it was counterfeit.

While Chief Bell was speaking to the clerk at the business, Brumberg tossed something behind an ice cream cooler. Upon investigation, Chief Bell found a small clear light bulb with a dime-sized hole punched in the threaded end, commonly known to be a form of drug paraphernalia used for smoking methamphetamine, the complaint indicates.

According to the complaint, Brumberg initially denied that he put anything behind the cooler but eventually admitted he tossed the item there and that it was used to smoke methamphetamine.

Brumberg was also found to be in possession of a red bottle of pills, later identified as oxycodone hydrochloride, which he said were prescribed narcotics given to him by his father. When questioned, Brumberg’s father said Brumberg must have stolen the medication, the complaint states.

Upon a search of items found on Brumberg’s person, a small clear baggie containing .8 grams of a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine was located in his wallet. The substance was tested with a Narcotics Identification Kit and tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

Brumberg was arraigned at 7:19 p.m. on Monday, August 12, in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on the following charges:

  • Forgery – Unauthorized Act In Writing, Felony 2
  • Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor (two counts)
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
  • Trademark Counterfeiting – Manufactures, Misdemeanor 1
  • Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities/Intent To Promote, Felony 1

Unable to post $50,000.00 cash bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, with Judge Inzana presiding.
