John “Jack” McGee

John “Jack” McGee, 83, of Punxsutawney, passed away on January 8, 2019, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born on November 1, 1935, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Willis and Dorothy Wilamena (Anderson) McGee. On May 28, 1956, he married Maxine McMillen. She survives him and resides in Punxsutawney.

Mr. McGee was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church.

John worked as a Journeyman/Lineman for Penelec for 31 years during which time he was Manager of the Dubois/Punxsutawney area until moving on to Penn Line as a Line Foreman until his retirement. During his spare time, he enjoyed doing landscaping. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

John graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School with the Class of 1953. He had the honor of being elected class president, of which he was very proud and always coordinated his class reunions.

He enjoyed spending time with his family immensely.

John is survived by his wife, Maxine, four children, Jonna Irvin and husband Mac of Big Run; John “Bud” McGee of Harrisburg; Holly Astorino and husband John of Punxsutawney; and Mary Ann Gordon and husband Keith also of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, Brooke Dawson (Paul), Macky Irvin (Kathrin), Maria Temchulla (Josh), Jenna Davis (Kevin), Nicholas and Olivia Gordan, and Kaianna McGee; and ten great-grandchildren, Alexander, Taylor, Quinn and Lana Dawson, Finnley and Zoe” Irvin, Landan and Paxton Temchulla, Raea and Reese Davis, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James McGee, and a sister, Joline Pifer.

Friends will be received on Friday, January 11, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney, and on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Joe Buterbaugh officiating.

Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Cloe.
