According to Clarion-based State Police, around 10:32 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, a 17-year-old female from Oak Ridge was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, traveling south on State Route 2001 (Shannondale Road).

Police say the driver lost control of her vehicle while traveling on Shannondale Road when she swerved to miss a deer on the roadway. The vehicle exited the roadway where it collided with a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to final rest on its roof.

The driver suffered “potentially serious injuries” and was flown to Allegheny General Hospital by LifeFlight for treatment, according to police.

The driver and her passenger – a 17-year-old female from Mayport – were both wearing seatbelts.

The passenger was not injured.

Summerville Volunteer Fireman’s Association and Clarion Hospital EMS also assisted at the scene.
