Police Respond to Vehicle Fire on Route 36

GASKILL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police responded to a vehicle fire that occurred on State Route 36 on Saturday evening.

According to police, around 6:21 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, a vehicle fire occurred on State Route 36 just west of Tipple Road in Gaskill Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 18-year-old Kiera l. Shaffer, of Smicksburg, was operating a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, traveling south on State Route 36, when she noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle.

Shaffer then pulled over onto the side of the road where it was determined there were flames in the engine compartment. A fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire.

Shaffer and her passengers, 22-year-old Logan M. Hill, of Clymer, and 18-year-old Carissa L. Schuckers, of Nescopeck, were not injured.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Brosius Towing.

Jefferson County EMS and Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company also assisted at the scene.
