PSP Punxsy: Thieves Following Christmas Shoppers After They Leave Store

The Pennsylvania State Police is reminding Christmas Shoppers to be aware of their surroundings during the holiday shopping season.

The following statement was issued by the Pennsylvania State Police in Punxsutawney:

Unfortunately, there are individuals who prey on shoppers and wish to deprive them of the items which have recently been purchased.

Recently, incidents have been reported stating that individuals have been following shoppers within a store and then out into the parking lot.

It has been reported that the same individuals would then follow them off store property and onto the roadway.

If you feel that you are being followed while shopping, report the incident to store personnel and request assistance to your vehicle.

If you see the actor(s) continue to follow you, contact 911 immediately for police assistance.

It is advised that if you are being followed while in a vehicle, do not travel to your residence, but remain in a highly-populated area until police arrival.

If possible, do your shopping during the daylight hours and always be aware of the location of your personal belongings and your children/dependents while you shop.
