Say What?!: ‘Space Junk’ Crashes Down on California Orchard

KINGS CO., Calif. – Authorities have identified a piece of space junk that crashed down on a walnut orchard in California as a fuel tank from a satellite.

Through research with assistance from a local Air Force Base, authorities were able to determine the fuel tank came from a communications satellite owned by the Iridium company who were pleased to take custody of the tank.

The company noted the tank was the first piece recovered from one of their satellites after reentering the atmosphere.
